Shenanigans

‘Invitin’ all ye Scallywags, Rascals and Ruffians to partake of this free piratey shenanigans as crews take over the ancient port of Weymouth for mischief and naughtiness!’ This October sees Weymouth celebrate its rich maritime history, with a focus on pirates! Throughout the 18th and 19th centuries high taxes led to an increase in illegal imports to Britain. Weymouth’s position on the South Coast meant that it became a hub for contraband; and so the battle between smugglers and customs men began… Weymouth Pirate Fest, draws on this pirate history with a family friendly festival of fun and shenanigans! Events and re-enactments will take place throughout the town and visitors as well as locals are welcome to dress up and join in.

Activities begin at 6pm on Friday 4th October with an all you can eat banquet in the Pirates keep £7 6-9pm

Treasure map

Calling all Pirates to follow ye olde treasure map, to find yer loot.
Maps available at participating olde hostelries:
The Belvedere, The Black Dog, The Boot, The Chapelhay Tavern, The Cutter hotel, The Globe, The Kings Arms, Market House Tavern and The Sailors return.

Parade

The morning of Saturday 5th October sees pirates from Weymouth, the UK and Europe gathering at Pirate HQ at 11am. Then at 11:30am the parade begins from outside the Golden Lion at the bottom of St Mary Street to the spirited sounds of pirate band The Boarding Crew, before moving through the town into St Thomas street and then finishing in Millennium square with The Dolmen and their troupe of drummers at the lead. Prepare for re-enactments, piracy and shenanigans including appearances by Jax Parrow, Silly King George and Captain Harry Hook.

Street performers will be entertaining pirates at various times and locations throughout the town during the afternoon (details to be confirmed)

Little Buccaneers

For all little buccaneers there are plenty of shenigans for you to partake in, from walking the plank, panning for gold and firing the cannonballs at the Nothe Fort Pirate Weekend (5-6th Oct from 10.30am-4pm) Visit nothefort.org.uk for details.

All aboard the pirate ships

The Moonfleet Pirate ship will be docking within the harbour on Saturday, inviting pirates aboard, during the weekend, with a special acoustic set from the Dolmen on Sunday morning.

Marauders and Soundrels

The Evening of Saturday 5th October sees pirates gathering in various locations throughout the town (more details to come)
