Last year, We Are Weymouth hosted the second ‘Chase the Dinosaur’ event, as part of 'Dino Week' raising funds for the Will Mackaness Trust and kicking off the February half term in true Jurassic style.
Event Details:
Register through the link above
Date: Saturday, 14th February 2026
Time: Registration from 11am,
Warm-up at 12:45 AM,
Race starts at 13:00 PM
Location: Weymouth Beach – from the Pavilion end
Race Options:
5km Run: Pavilion end of Weymouth Beach to the stones at Greenhill and back (for adults).
2km Run: Pavilion end to the Pier Bandstand and back (for under 16s).
1km Run: Pavilion to the Beach Office and back (for under 11s).
Preschooler Race: A short dash from the sand sculptures to the Pavilion. (you can run holding a parent's hand)
We know some of you just want to dress up and run. You aren't bothered about winning, or getting a prize and certainly don't want to run 5K, so we're doing a totally separate run for adults, (and families who want to run together) to the bandstand and back which will be our last race of the day, you will have different coloured wristbands but can join in the silliness.
This family-friendly event invites participants to don their favourite dinosaur costumes and join in the fun along Weymouth’s iconic coastline. Whether you’re racing to win or just out for a leisurely jog, the day promises plenty of laughs, memories, and a chance to make a difference in the local community.
Prizes will be awarded to the top finishers in each category, and one lucky participant will earn the honour of becoming “THE Dinosaur” for the 2026 event. Three large Animatronic dinosaurs will be attending doing shows throughout the town from 10am and making an appearance at the race launching the start of Dino week, with activities and shows.
Runners raised double its £500 donation in 2024 giving over £1000 to the trust in 2025. Hundreds turned up on the beach to watch the Dino's in action. There were over 150 runners and 30 pre-schoolers, all making the most of the glorious February sunshine.
This year we are hoping the event will be our biggest yet, in aid of this great local charity. We are supported by D of E volunteers from Wey Valley Academy to adjudicate and ensure the smooth running of the event.
Everyone welcome - as it's the taking part in this fun event that matters most. Laughs guaranteed!!
