Megalodon

Megalodon Information

The Megalodon was an enormous prehistoric shark, so huge that its silhouette alone would have been enough to inspire fear. This giant predator, which lived until about 2.5 million years ago, was estimated to weigh as much as 30 great white sharks combined. Reaching lengths of 40 to 60 feet and weighing up to 75 tons, it dominated ancient oceans for millions of years.

Throughout dramatic shifts in Earth’s history—ice ages, meteor impacts, and changing sea levels—sharks continued to thrive, and the megalodon emerged as the most formidable among them. To sustain its huge size, it likely consumed around 2,500 pounds of food each day, feeding on large marine mammals such as whales, dolphins, seals, and even other sharks.
