We Are Weymouth recently celebrated its Annual General Meeting (AGM) at the historic Nothe Fort, drawing over 60 attendees. The event was not only a platform to review the achievements of the past year but also an opportunity to unveil exciting plans for the remainder of 2024. Highlights included updates on popular initiatives like the hanging baskets and the world premiere of the Dusk Til Dark performance, as well as the introduction of the new Zombie Trail set for October.

One of the standout moments of the AGM was the announcement of the winners of the Spring Window Competition, an event that saw 16 local businesses transform their shopfronts into vibrant spring-themed displays. The competition was judged by former Liberty’s window designer, Councillor Rob Hughes, who evaluated the entries based on their adherence to the spring theme, branding, simplicity, and visual appeal.

And the Winners Are…

1st Place: The Flamingo Room

The Flamingo Room captured both the judges’ and the public’s hearts with a display that perfectly encapsulated the essence of spring. Their vibrant and captivating window featured hand-painted elements that showcased their products and brand beautifully, earning widespread admiration.

2nd Place: Craftlines

Craftlines impressed with an innovative display that was not only visually stunning but also community-crafted. Their knitted window decorations brought a playful and colourful touch that resonated deeply with the public, celebrating spring through artistic creativity.

3rd Place: Floral Couture by Jay

Floral Couture by Jay brought the beauty of spring to life with elegant floral arrangements. Their thoughtful display, featuring rabbits, chicks, eggs, and flowers, created a stunning visual impact that captured the spirit of the season.

Highly Commended: British Red Cross and Julia’s House

  • The British Red Cross was recognised for a design that highlighted their values while celebrating spring.
  • Julia’s House charmed the community with a heartfelt display using donated products to great effect.

Celebrating Community and Commerce

Dawn Rondeau-Irvine, Chief Operations Officer at We Are Weymouth, expressed pride in the participants: “The creativity and effort that went into each display were truly inspiring. It’s wonderful to see our community come together to celebrate the beauty of spring and support our local businesses.”

The competition not only brightened Weymouth’s streets but also encouraged increased footfall, boosted local commerce, and fostered a strong sense of community spirit.

Chris Truscott, Chair of the Board of We Are Weymouth, reflected on the success of the AGM: “It was a fantastic event at the award-winning Nothe Fort. Seeing so many businesses join together to progress our town was truly inspiring. Our focus on shaping the future, improving standards, and marketing the town continues to make a significant difference.”
