Nothe Fort has had so many enquiries about The Longest Yarn 2 that it’s extending the exhibition right through the school holidays. It now runs from 1st July to 24th August, 10am to 4pm, giving visitors until the end of summer to see it.

The exhibition is a collection of knitted World War II scenes, each one telling part of the story of wartime Britain. Every panel has been made by hand, with makers putting in thousands of hours of skilled work to bring the scenes to life. It’s craft, history and community spirit in one visually striking display, and it’s proving to be one of the most talked-about exhibitions Weymouth has seen in years.

Whether you’re into art, history, or you’re just curious to see what people can do with wool and a lot of patience, there’s something here for you. The exhibition shows just how powerful craft can be at bringing the past into the present.

Nothe Fort’s Events and Marketing Coordinator, Connie Jenkins-Teague, said: “We’re thrilled to be extending The Longest Yarn 2 exhibition. It’s an incredibly popular attraction so we recommend booking your tickets in advance to skip the queues! We’d also like to say a big thank you to everyone who has made knitted bunting for our decorations. With under a week to go, we can’t wait to welcome visitors, and we hope the exhibition trail encourages you to look even more closely at the incredible detail in every piece.”

There’s also a new addition for families this year: the Knitted Mouse Hunt. It’s a scavenger hunt around the Fort, spotting knitted mice made by local crafters and hidden around the grounds.
