This Halloween, Weymouth transformed into a thrilling playground for horror lovers of all ages with the town’s first-ever Zombie Trail, an event that invited families, friends, and daring individuals to face spooky challenges and interact with zombies around town. The trail attracted hundreds of participants who braved the puzzles, engaged with eerie characters, and competed for exciting prizes, making it a memorable highlight of the Halloween season.
The event, organised by We Are Weymouth in collaboration with Island Community Action and participating local businesses, provided over 400 participants with maps and clues to solve challenging questions as they navigated Weymouth’s streets, encountering “zombies” and even a few pirate characters along the way. From families with children to groups of friends, everyone enjoyed the immersive experience.
“We’ve had lots of fun with the zombies!” said one attendee, while another added, “It was more difficult than expected, which was great for us as a family with teenagers. It kept them guessing and engaged all the way round.” Participants praised the event for its design and seamless execution, with one remarking, “Really well organised and professional.”
Participants also appreciated the balance of difficulty in the questions and the opportunity to explore Weymouth in a new way. “This was excellent fun. We squeezed in some shopping and stopped for lunch halfway round, so fitted in perfectly with the whole day,” one attendee noted, while another said, “Loved the pirates. They really engaged with us all, which was great. Also liked the mix of questions, some harder than others but all doable with a bit of thinking. Thank you.” For many, the hints provided some added entertainment. “The question hints were funny and helped us a lot!”
The winners of the FREE Zombie Trail, who planned their half-term Halloween around the event, were thrilled to claim the top prize: “I saw the zombie trail advertised on Facebook; my son loves Halloween and puzzles, so I knew this would be perfect. We planned a Halloween Half Term, which started off with the Zombie Trail, then we went for a spooky nighttime walk in Thorncombe Woods, pumpkin picking at Bincombe Farm, and of course, Trick-or-Treating. When I received the message that we had won the meal at Sticks and Bones, it really was the cherry on the pumpkin pie cake of our half term. Even more so as I had to ‘prize’ them out of there (excuse the pun) to start the trail in the first place.”
Event organisers were delighted with the turnout and positive feedback.
