New Christmas lighting planned to brighten up Weymouth town centre over the festive period have been installed in St Alban Street.

We Are Weymouth, the Business Improvement District (BID) was approached by the businesses in St Alban Street to coordinate and support the installation of a winter lighting scheme and have worked tirelessly with Weymouth Town Council to ensure it has gone ahead this week.

Chief Operations Officer Dawn Rondeau comments: “We are delighted to announce that we are working in partnership with Weymouth Town Council to provide the installation of the lighting scheme in St Alban Street. We are thrilled that we have found a suitable scheme of temporary lighting that meets with everyone’s approval.”

Cllr Colin Huckle, Mayor of Weymouth, said: “The magical Christmas lighting in the centre of Weymouth brings some much-needed festive cheer to the town on these dark nights.

This year, the town council has worked in partnership with We Are Weymouth and local traders to fund and install additional street lighting in St Alban Street. This temporary scheme, alongside the traditional festive lights and large Christmas tree in New Bond Street, makes Weymouth an attractive go-to destination for shoppers in Dorset and beyond.”

We Are Weymouth added: “It has been great to work closely with Weymouth Town Council to be able to provide this scheme for St Alban Street making Christmas something special for the businesses there. After all we have been through this past year, to have a little bit of extra light in the town will brighten up all our lives.”

St Alban Street proprietor, Sara Evans of Bibi’s Boutique comments: “We are so happy that after years of campaigning and petitioning for winter lights in St Alban Street, it’s finally happened! We are incredibly excited to see our beautiful and historic street lit up in all its glory. A special thanks to all that have made this possible!”
